That was that 50th Daytona 500/10th Anv. of Dale's 500 win car that Daytona did as part of the 50th celebration. I think it was more just something else we can throw a 3 on a COT diecast and try and make more money than it was for anything else since they hadn't found a reason prior to this to be able to make a Sr. COT. I do agree that if Sr was still around there wouldn't be a COT or most likely a lot of the other changes Brian France has made!
