Credit to Jayski:

Tommy Baldwin Racing is paying homage to its heritage with the announcement that Dave Blaney will drive the #7 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starting at the season-opening Daytona 500. The number is a tribute to team owner Tommy Baldwin Jr.'s late father, Tom Baldwin Sr., who was a beloved NASCAR Modified driver, and sported the number 7NY throughout his career. Working on his father's cars is how Baldwin got his start in racing, and ultimately led him into NASCAR's elite series. "It is a very special moment today to announce the number 7 on our Chevrolet SS. The number has been in the Baldwin family for a long time and it is going to be pretty special to carry on that legacy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series." Based in Mooresville, N.C., TBR will compete in the NSCS in 2013 with NASCAR veteran Dave Blaney driving the #7 Chevy SS.(140 Buzz / TBR PR), supposedly TBR wants to field two Cup teams in 2013, so it could also use the #36 for the 2nd team.

EDIT: Major fail indeed...I messed up the title (Baldwin, not Balwin) (n)

This is weird.

Why did TBR and Danica not do some sort of deal that left TBR keeping the #10 they shared with SHR last year (with Danica), and gave Danica the #7 she wanted in the first place but Robby Gordon squatted on last year?

Well Tommy Baldwin is using it as a tribute to his father and I believe Robby wouldn't let it go because he planned on coming back at the time but now that he's officially done with NASCAR he gave it up

Well I'd rather see Danica in a stock car period, than hear her moan and groan about not getting the car number she wanted. Especially given the circumstances.

Shes already been marketed and established in the 10. I dont think this even remotely an issue just weird coincidence that TBR ran points for her last year using SHRs number, now they are using her old indy/nationwide number.

Danica NEVER wanted the #7.

Danica started running the #7 in Indycar because she was hired to replace Bryan Herta when he left Andretti, the car that Herta drove was the #7.

When she started running NASCAR she was still under contract to Andretti, the only way Andretti would let her run in NASCAR was if she ran the #7 in hopes that it would result in more merchandise sales for him of her Indycar merchandise.

Had she still been driving for Rahal-Letterman at the time she decided to make the jump to NASCAR it's very well possible she could've been made to run the #16 car in the NNS because that was her Indycar number when she was with Rahal-Letterman.

On the other hand #10 is her actual "number", the number she picked as hers when she first started racing as a little kid all those years ago. The number she probaly used (where possible) in every other non-racing sport she competed in too.
