Tell is about now that the real reason for all this is that Townley just doesn't want to race anymore. (Which actually explains why Hal Martin was in his ARCA car at Talladega).

That's a shame, because the kid has shown that he's capable of driving a racecar under the right circumstances - Ultimately, his critics are what's ruined his career. It's times like these that we need to step back and remind ourselves that drivers have feelings too.

Well that is to bad if he lost the will to run. Yeah the media and fans like have branded this kid some bad names. But I remember people talking mess about jj he was the greatest of Nationwide drivers back in the day and look at him now.

Jimmie wasn't a bad Nationwide driver, he just wasn't the greatest. In his rookie year he DNQ'd Daytona, yet still still finished 10th in points. The in second year he finished 8th in points with a win.

Sure, his Nationwide stats don't exactly show "next dominating Cup champ", but he still did pretty good. I don't know why people think he did bad.

JWT's situation is totally different from that.

Well Considering the biggest Memory of JJ in Nationwide career was when he slammed into the wall at the glen and jumped out the car and stood on the rough like he won something.

So, that doesn't take away his accomplishments. A big crash is probably more memorable than than barely getting into the top-10 in points. JWT in his case, hasn't really accomplished anything and is nowhere near the top-10.

First off look at the 2001 nationwide series to the series of today. Then Harvick was the only double duty driver in the 10 then and that wasnt by choice.

I have to disagree with the Austin Dillon remark from above. That kid has shown as much talent as some of the other well-kown drivers out there and even has the finishes to back it up. I was there in Martinsville watching him drive his way from 16th place into the top-8 before a small run in and let me tell you he can drive a car. Give the boy a few years to develop and he will be fine.

No I meant that since thats his grandson he will have all the time in the world to become a great driver. He a good driver and no disrepect to him as a driver. Its just crazy that Townley is already out as well as Steve Leight who saw is schedule die down to 5 or 6 races in the 29 car last year. Not everyone can get it together in a season or two, but idk if Townley would have ever gotten it going.

The thing with Leight is Burton was the driver Holiday Inn was backing and not leight is why he didnt have many races. As for Austin he isnt rushing up the ranks either because he going to College, which I think is a good move that some of these young guys should do because in the world of racing you just dont know how long your going to last and or injury that cuts your career short.

I know it's a completely different era. I'm just saying Johnson wasn't as bad in Nationwide as people make him out to be and I don't think he should be compared to Townley. This shouldn't really be an argument.

Townley is apparently no longer with RCR. Zaxby's will sponsor the #21 car for 10 more races, but then it looks like the #21 will turn into a rent-a-ride car.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Blake Koch drive the car if that's the case.

Nope John Wes Townley remains as a Richard Childress Racing development driver, a spokesperson for the NASCAR Nationwide Series team said Friday at Darlington Raceway. Team spokesperson Jackie Franzil said that while she didn't know the upcoming driver schedule for RCR's #21 Chevrolet, she said Townley is still under contract as a development driver

From Jayski today.
I am not trying to compare them driving skills just Jimmie wasnt really on the radar for being a cup driver, Neither is Townley but you never know once he get whatever is holding him down off his back.
