The track was a financial disaster from day one... the owners never really managed the funding correctly and it was just a mess with it's finances. Definitely sad to see it go though, as is any track lost....
They just stated in Cup Practice that a combo east-west k&n series, North South modifieds, and some other races will be held in a 1/4 mile track in the run-off area on the super stretch at Daytona the Monday and Tuesday after Qualifying in NEXT years Speed-weeks!
4/10 not 1/14
Either way it's going to be basically Bowman Gray with longer straights & narrower turns & absolutely no banking. Which means it's going to be boring follow the leader train-racing, especially for the K&N cars.
Holy pessimism Batman. You mind actually waiting until the race takes place before you write it off as 'boring'?
I've actually spent time at a track that is pretty similar to this proposed Daytona track (.33 instead of .44 & the turns have a slightly wider radius then Daytona will have, but other then that they're identical) and the only class of cars that puts on anything near non-train racing is the Legends cars/Bandeleros.Holy pessimism Batman. You mind actually waiting until the race takes place before you write it off as 'boring'?
The track is built, the only part that isn't built are the K-Rails that they're going to forklift into place to make the walls for the turns.I'm with this. Why the pessimism? Tough to make that kind of judgement when the track hasnt even been built yet, let alone a race being run.
I think you're over-estimating some things though.I've seen some pretty awesome modified races at Bowman Gray. In fact, I could see this being the complete opposite of follow-the-leader and more like a Martinsville type race in which everyone is trading paint, using the chrome horn, and fighting for the bottom.

Fine, don't watch.
