I could see Penske putting Ryan Blaney in the 21 Part-Time

I could see that too. Run the 12 for a few races and the 21 for the races that the Blaney isn't in the 12. If for some reason the 12 and 21 race schedules overlap get someone else to run the 21 that race, but they can coordinate it where it all works out.

Be a shame to see the Wood brothers hang it up.

I don't think that will happen, they have plenty of options to fill that ride. Like others have said, Ryan Blaney is an option, or they can bring a young guy up from NNS part time. Parker Kligerman is out there also. Or they can go to an older veteran like they did before Bayne joined them, Bobby Labonte and David Reutimann come to mind instantly...also guys like Stremme, Yeley, etc, although I dont see them catching on. It'll be interesting to see what comes of that seat.

I am with you Dan, but all those options are a downgrade to Trevor.

Yeah, I agree there, but unfortunately for them there's not much out there, but never know, that could change.

Be a shame to see the Wood brothers hang it up.

Ed Wood say that they are no where near done and they've started looking forward to next year.

What's next? Wood Brothers ponder life after Trevor Bayne | FOX Sports on MSN

While the Wood Brothers don't know yet who Bayne's successor will be, this much is certain: The team, which has been in racing since 1950 and collected 98 top series NASCAR victories with a host of drivers, isn't going away.

"No, no, no," Wood said. "We've had, I think, over 75 drivers in our car over the years. You move through racing as you move through life, and, no, no, we won't do that."

Roush is lobbying for Chris Buescher or Ryan Reed in the car.
And as previously stated, Penske may be interested in putting Blaney in there.

Watch someone like David Ragan get the 21

"like David Ragan"? What is he a disease? WHy would he give up a full time ride for a part time one?
Roush will have input on the driver of the 21 as he has an alliance with the WB, Penske does not. Roger has the 12 car if he wants that scenario.

What he meant is that from the journeyman drivers/drivers from underfunded teams available, they'll never reach the caliber of the Tony Stewarts, the Jeff Gordons, the Kyle Busches, and what not.

In all likelihood, it will be one of those Roush N'Wide drivers but you never know about a Josh Wise type who isn't old and unike Reutimann, Yeley, etc., has never had a chance to show his stuff in good Cup equipment. Wise is quite the attention getter at the moment and he has been running decent all year in a terrible car. He could be a dark horse for the ride, especially with his young age and potential should he get a competitive ride.

I'm so confused

"There's plenty of options out there" - Yeah. There's plenty of free agents.
"Unfortunately for them there's not much out there" - In the form of raw talent that would be an upgrade to their last driver.

Maybe if you read what I was replying too instead of shooting for the smartass comment you would have understood, lol.

It's all in good fun though.

I'm glad to see the 6 run again. Was a huge Mark Martin fan when he ran it. Also good for Bayne. He really deserves the shot. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

In all likelihood, it will be one of those Roush N'Wide drivers

The alliance between RFR and Wood Brothers (current alliance, which is different from the one back in the Elliott Sadler days) was formed specifically for Trevor Bayne. Jack Roush offered technical support (and a lot of it) to get Bayne in a Cup car. It (in it's current form) wasn't a pre-existing alliance that Bayne just happened to be the beneficiary of. It was a special deal that was put together because of the significant potential Bayne was showing (which Buescher/Reed are nowhere near at this point in time).

So the point being, Wood Brothers are not automatically Roush's developmental team from here on out. Obviously it's not out of the realm of possibility they could put together/continue a similar scenario, but its certainly not a given. So I wouldn't be too confident betting on Reed or Buescher to end up in the #21 car. The decision may not even have anything to do with Roush, for that matter.

I don't think that will happen, they have plenty of options to fill that ride. Like others have said, Ryan Blaney is an option, or they can bring a young guy up from NNS part time. ^^^^That would probably be my vote. I think he's the best veteran free agent/floater around right now.

Regan Smith would be a decent pick up too, but I'm guessing he'll have something else lined up for next year if he can keep his stock high through the rest of this season. For nostalgia's sake, I'd be down for seeing a reunion with Sadler (I'd assume highly unlikely).

I could've sworn I posted my opinion on this here already, but I guess not....

OT: I'm going to hold off on calling this a good thing (or a bad thing) until a few races in next year. For all we know, this might be a good move, yet there's a chance it might not. So get back to me in a year about this.....

I have always liked Trevor and to see him get a full time Cup ride is awesome. So now I will have 4 people to root for on sundays next year.

Good for Trevor to finally be a part of Roush, too bad they've been off the last year or so with the cars. I think with this, Roush only re-signs one of their impending free-agents, whether it be Greg Biffle or Carl Edwaards, and lets the other one go.

I seen yesterday that it's a possibility that both biffle and Edwards do not return to RFR in 2015

Surprised nobody posted this here yet. I would love for this to happen.

Hornish to the #21 in 2015? on FoxSports1 NASCAR Raceday, Bob Dillner reported that Sam Hornish Jr. could end up in the #21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford in a part-time ride next season.(FoxSports1)(6-8-2014)
