Well, this would've worked until Robby Gordon jumped ship to Dodge. Since 2008 is the 15th anniversary of Alan Kulwicki's fatal plane crash, I figured I'd whip up a modern tribute. It's really more of a Robby Gordon retro than an Alan Kulwicki tribute car. I used Robby Gordon's sponsors (based on the 2007 Sharpie 500) and Alan's Hooter's paint scheme.

Great Job man, I think Alan would be turning over in his grave right now if he knew what Robby is doing.

Me too. As much as I like the Dodges, Alan probably never would've switched manufacturers for the reason of technical support. Even in the age where every team is either a mega-team or a satellite, he'd continue to operate with his own identity.

Well keep in mind Robby is not driving Alan's car...

Alan's #7 team was sold to Geoff Bodine who after switching it from Ford to Chevy to Ford to Chevy, merged it with Evernham & that was the first time the #7 was a Dodge. Evernham eventually assimilated the team after sponsor Sirius did not return.

Robby took his upstart Busch team to Cup and took advantage of the vacant #7. Since then Robby's changed it from Chevy to Ford to Dodge now. The #7 just can not settle on a manufacturer post-AK!

If anything, Robby's proof of why Petty was smart to keep the #43, Yates to keep the #28, and RCR to keep the #3. People can and will take available numbers, regardless of their history.

If I'm not mistaken, Jim Smith owned the #7 after Geoff Bodine left the team, and then he merged with Evernham for 03-04. They ran a part-time schedule in 04 due to the sponsorship issues before the team was dropped by Evernham, but Jim Smith still owned the rights to the #7. Robby Gordon left RCR after 04 and created the Cup team Robby Gordon Motorsports in 2005. He merged that team with Jim Smith. So, directly or indirectly, it is the same team Alan Kulwicki owned and drove for.

I do not think Alan would of remained a single car team, nor do I believe he would of stayed with Ford if he was given a better option.
