Desktop Defender 2010 is a rogue security application, also known as a fake antivirus program. Desktop Defender 2010 hopes to trick the user into thinking that it is a real program. Desktop Defender 2010 hopes to scare the user into purchasing the program by displaying fake virus scan results. Desktop Defender 2010 is fake and doesn’t work.
Desktop Defender 2010 will tell the user that their computer is infected and will use tactics to convince the user to purchase it. It will also use other tactics, such as the use of pop ups to warn the user. However, the program itself doesn’t work to remove viruses. It has a website which it uses to advertise the fake program.

It also pops up a box saying it needs to show a message, when it shows it "scanning" your pc.

Removal guide: Browsing Search Results for desktop defender 2010 virus // BlogCatalog

I tried scanning AVG and Malwarebytes, those didn't work. but read the guide at the link above, and you'll get it out.

Avast Ani-Virus running full time = the best
Spybot Search & Destroy along with Ad-Aware for the bi-weekly overall system sweeps = Takes care of the rest.

I have Avast and it rocks.

My computer once was infected with the ANG thing. I got it FROM NNRacing. Lost all my NR2003 and NR2002 files, and basically my entire harddrive. Had to re-download everything. That is because the only way to get rid of it was to flush my computer. The ANG thing didn't let me open up IE and I had to use Firefox. (which I came to like more)

Well call me an idiot...but...I have used IE for a couple of years and have been a frequent visitor to nnracing for a long time (2-3 yrs.) and not once got any kind of virus whatsoever. I also have NO spysweeper/ant-virus software installed. And still...NEVER have got any kind of virus.

Perhaps you have one and just don't know about it? Hopefully not. Sorry if my original comment offended anyone, I didn't mean for it to. And true enough there are some great security programs for Windows.

When I used a PC I was using AVG and a wealth of other software to keep muh PC safe. If you go to the Clark Howard website (Best site for anything!), there is a link to loads of free stuff to keep your PC safe. Just wanted to let ya'll know. Or buy a Mac. ;)

"I also have NO spysweeper/ant-virus software installed. And still...NEVER have got any kind of virus."

How could you know if you have a virus when you don't have antivirus installed?
