It is clear some people on here just watch races on NR2003 and some play the game...and I'm sure some do both.

Personally I mostly watch races but try to race every now and then...what about you?

Well, to be honest, I have only raced perhaps in a dozen or so of the hundreds of total races that I have created in NR2003 (mainly because keyboard driving is terrible and my Driving Force GT steering wheel that I use on the PC won't work on my iMac which has NR2003 on it). When I get bored and have nothing else to do, I tend to "simulate" superspeedway races and see how they turn out (race-wise).

Some races turn out to be awesome, while others turn out to be wreck-fests in which the AI just messes up within the pack and sparks the "Big One".

I like threads like these. Always curious how others enjoy NR2003. I do a little more with NR203 than watch or play I'd say. I would probably race more but I paint too much ... if NR2003 didn't allow such awesome customization to create completely fictional paint schemes and carsets I probably wouldn't have as much fun with it to be honest. When you could first create custom carsets and paint schemes back in Nascar Racing 2 (yes I've been painting for that many years lol) I've always had a fun time with unlimited options for making custom cars in Papyrus nascar games on the pc.

I'd say my time spent with NR2003 is divided up like this:

50% of the time I'm painting for NR2003 for my fictional carsets

25% of the time is spent is R&D doing stuff like UI enhancements, track building, other forms of modding you can do in NR2003. Things as simple as making my own custom car cam files and stuff of that sort is what I have fun doing.

15% of the time I'm in opponent manager importing painted cars, creating rosters, and watching in replay to make sure the cars look alright

10% of the time I'm actually racing

yeah, I do have a hard time getting away from the 'garage / shop' of NR2003 but it's how I get my fun out of the game. I am a very creative person that can never be done with 'working' on some sort of project for the game. I always like to be making something new for the game so either others can enjoy it or I can just see what crazy crap I can come up with to spice my game up.

Fictional carsets, drivers, and schemes are really an important thing for me with NR2003 as well. I highly doubt I'm the only one either with all the popular offline races people run here. It is satisfying to be racing in an entire fictional carset that you've made yourself creating it's own history so to speak. After a carset is done I start a season, thats probably when I race the most. I sometimes just do random races with actual Nascar carsets others have painted for kicks but I do season races with my own.

With that said, I always make it a mission to go and race when I can after I've painted cars though. It would be a shame to paint so many and never race with them ...

but then I'm back in Photoshop painting more afterward

You're 33 years old and admit this?

I bet you get laid a lot.

I only race when I have the time, I never understood watching an entire simulated race. I did use to spend time with paints, mip files, and sound files but dont have time anymore. I just hit a race every now and then, in the late night hours if I can.

When I ran offline races, oh yeah I would sit back and watch the race unfold. But since I have ceased doing so, I find myself racing much more.

Since I started college back in August, not much time to really do anything but I split my time painting and racing...the only time I ever watch is if I wreck out of a race but even then I sim to the last 10 or so laps just to catch the finish if its a longer race.

hijinx, I think more ppl are watching races on nr2003 because real life nascar is getting worse and worse....pretty bad when a simulated race is better than the real thing.

I race most of the time... I also watch, but I hardly do that anymore. Sometimes when I watch races I think "I want to be in there racing too."

I usually spend about 75% of my time racing, or testing newly painted cars, or messing about in game 25% percent of my time painting shoddy cars for personal use. I'm in the "paint a professional looking car mood" tonight.

Oh ya, I think lots of folks watch races being run by the ai. Having run most of Zoom Racing World's 80 plus series over the last 4 years (that's hundreds and hundreds of races)using both NR2003 and rFactor, I have to say tha many times I find the real NASCAR races to be plum boring by comparrison, Now I realize that that is probably because I have more vested interest, but well...there it is...

I do a lot of both. Watching races has helped me figure out racing lines and such on various tracks.

During the first five or so years I was doing a whole lot more racing than I am now. Now its mostly watching and modding stuff for the game.
