Richard Petty made his US racing debut right here in Buffalo, NY on July 19, 1958 at Buffalo Civic Stadium which at the time was also a paved short track. That same stadium has been renamed several times and was called War Memorial Stadium until it was torn down and a high school athletic field was built in it's place (Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Athletic Sports Pavilion). In 1984 the film "The Natural" was also filmed partially on the site making it a memorable place for those who have seen it in it's prime. Too bad I wasn't around in those days. An educational, relevant, random little thought. Good thread.
