Doug Yates Discusses Upcoming Engine Changes for Cup Teams
Doug Yates from Roush Yates Racing Engines talks about what's coming in regards to reduced horsepower for Cup teams:

Yates: So where we are today is reducing RPM, talking about taking 500 RPM away. Effectively, that reduces speed on the racetrack and goes along with making the parts last longer. Talking about roller cams. The Cup series is the only series that has a flat tappet cam. It is a really hard application and it is probably the only series in the world that has a flat tappet cam. It gets it more like Nationwide and Truck so the parts could be passed down and they would last longer. If we need to reduce power more, we'd do it through a reduced throttle body size, reducing the air flow through the throttle body. Those are the mechanisms that will be utilized to reduce power.

They are [also] looking at [limiting RPM] through gear ratios. We crossed that bridge years ago when we decided to limit the RPMs and they did it with the final drive ratio. It was a really good way to do it. If the engine will achieve more RPM because it is making more power or the driver gets off of the corner better and he achieves more RPM, then so be it. I think the final drive ratio is a good, easy-to-police way to get there. That is the adjustment they'll make. They do the same thing today in Nationwide and Trucks based on the RPM range they want to run. That has been a good, effective way to run.

NASCAR has had more engagement with the engine building community than they ever have before. We've had five meetings now and Gene Stefanyshyn has done a great job leading those meetings. At first, it was a little bit of going through a process to get everyone to talk and open up. Our lives are about competition so those meetings, at first, were a bit of "I can outdo you on this." Everybody has now settled in to try and achieve Brian France and NASCAR's two initiatives of trying to improve racing through a reduction of horsepower and to try and figure out how to save some cost for the teams."

Kansas Farm Bureau Featured on #66 Camry of Joe Nemechek at Kansas
As the Joe Nemechek #66 car accelerates around Kansas Speedway for the Kansas 400 Sprint Cup race this Saturday, it will carry Kansas Farm Bureau's 'Voice of Agriculture' message on each lap. The farm-grown ethanol powered race car will help show race fans and a huge television audience the importance of agriculture, from growing the food they enjoy, to the clothing they wear, to the high octane ethanol powering the cars around the track. "This sponsorship represents the hard-working farm and ranch families in rural Kansas," said Kansas Farm Bureau President Steve Baccus. "We are pleased to work with the #66 team to illustrate both the professionalism of our farmer and rancher members and an excellent race team."

Carsforsale.com Announces Additional 3-Race Sponsorship Deal with Landon Cassil & Hillman Racing
Carsforsale.com, one of the fastest-growing online automotive websites, announced a three-race Sprint Cup Series partnership with driver Landon Cassill and Hillman Racing as primary sponsor of the #40 Chevy SS beginning with this weekend's 5-hour Energy 400 race event under the lights at Kansas Speedway. Building on the success of its sponsorship of Cassill and the #40 in the Daytona 500, Carsforsale.com will also serve as the primary sponsor of the #40 Carsforsale.com Chevy SS at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (July 27) and Talladega Superspeedway (October 19), where just last week Cassill posted a Sprint Cup Series career-best 11th-place finish.

National Guard NASCAR Sponsorship Examined by Congress
The National Guard spent $26.5 million to sponsor NASCAR racing in 2012 to bolster its marketing and recruitment but failed to sign up a single new soldier to its ranks, according to data provided to USA Today. Even though the Guard spent $88 million as a NASCAR sponsor from 2011 to 2013, it is unclear how many new recruits, if any, signed up because of it, according to documents. The Guard on Wednesday would not confirm the figures on prospects and recruits developed through its NASCAR sponsorship. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., who will hold a hearing on the recruitment program Thursday, assailed the Guard for "wasting a bunch of money on a very expensive sports sponsorship." The Guard received 24,800 recruiting prospects from the program in 2012, documents show. In those cases, potential recruits indicated the NASCAR affiliation prompted them to seek more information about joining.

Of that group, only 20 met the Guard's qualifications for entry into the service, and not one of them joined. In 2013, the number of prospects associated with NASCAR dropped to 7,500, according to briefing materials for the Senate subcommittee on Financial and Contracting Oversight led by McCaskill. The National Guard needs 1 million leads to meet its annual recruiting goal of 50,000 soldiers. The NASCAR initiative, along with the $38 million spent on an IndyCar racing sponsorship, over the same period, will be the target of the hearing led by McCaskill. Rick Breitenfeldt, a National Guard spokesman, said 90% of Army National Guard soldiers who enlisted or re-enlisted from 2007 to 2013 indicated that they had been exposed to information about the service through NASCAR-related recruiting and retention materials. Sponsoring NASCAR and driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. puts the Guard's name in front of 77 million fans, he said.

Cherry 5-hour Energy Featured on Clint Bowyer's #15 at Kansas for 5 Hour Energy 400
The week doesn't get any less eventful for Clint Bowyer as he spends the week in his hometown of Emporia, Kan., for various appearances and then heads to his home track of Kansas Speedway. The rest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will join him for the track's first race under the lights in Saturday's 5-hour ENERGY 400. Bowyer's #15 Toyota will be specially painted for the event as well. In support of a new 5-hour ENERGY flavor, Bowyer pilots the #15 Cherry 5-hour ENERGY benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation Toyota.

Ryan Blaney had better make the race, Penske fielding extra cars have a rather tortured history (Sam Hornish 6 DNQ's in a part time car in 2007, Hornish crashing and DNQ'ing last year, Travis Kvapil DNQ's in 2004)

Everything that can, has. Kyle Busch has been good on restarts. That last one though, blaney gave him a run for his money. Lap 1 about 5 trucks got together. Rom Hornaday let off for a loose Tim Peters but Hornaday got bumped from behind and everyone wadded up. Then the 7 got into the wall, and now we are green! Oh and the 17 had suspension and toe prawblems! Three wide racin at Kansas! Joey Logano leads!
